An exceptionally attractive
feature of the VenTure is its affordable cost. The use of
composite materials and associated manufacturing system designs reduced
the weight of the aircraft, increased performance capabilities, and surprisingly
lowered the overall cost of the aircraft from $300,000 for an entirely
aluminum structure to $200,000 as a composite airframe. A competitive
production rate of 200 aircraft per year for 30 years was used to determine
the cost. The aircraft cost estimation was completed using techniques
taken directly from Roskam’s Aircraft Cost Estimation (11-1) and can be
found in Appendix O, Cost Estimation.
